Personalized Poetry is for Anytime

Published by J Scott under other

It does not have to be a birthday or a holiday it can be just because you want to express your love for someone and the perfect way to do that is through personalized poetry. There are many sites that offer the exact same service I do. There are also personalized business that have standard issue name poems for all names.  With these business there is only one “Stephanie” poem, here there are technically infinite “Stephanie” poems.

Shopping around for personalized poetry should be based on a few aspects of the business.

  • One and the most important is style.  Look through several sites and find a poem that matches in the style you are looking for. When you see the perfect poem, you will know it.
  • Secondly is how personal is the poem? Does the business create one for you or do they send a standard issue poem? I can create any poem for you, depending on how much information you give me about the person determines the amount of personalization. Just because there is a “Jennifer” poem listed here, this is not the poem you will recieve, there may be similar lines but each personalized poem will be unique as the person you are buying it for.
  • Lastly, the bottom line? Is the price for the poem reasonable, does it include framing, how much for shipping, do they offer any deals on buying than more than on poem.  For a personalized poem from me costs $15 and non-personalized poem costs $10 for an unframed poem. If you would like it framed there will be a $5 shipping charge for US customers. International folks will incur a different rate depending on country.  Evemn better when you purchase more than one poem at a time you will recieve 10% off order not inlcuding shipping charges.

If you are visiting a friend you haven’t seen in awhile or seeing your mother for the first time in months, why not order a personalized poem today and bring a smile and maybe a couple of tears to someone you care about.

Have a wonderful day!

Autumn Dreams- A Call for Submissions for Exquisite Corpse

Published by J Scott under other

It is   that time of year when the sun hangs low in the sky and nights  require a  jacket. Scarlet and orange leaves make  their presence known.  Dragonfly Poems will be hosting Exquisite Corpse. I am all about poetry. Poetry is something to be shared. With Exquisite Corpse poetry is  created by a group of people  with a general theme in  mind and some kind of line rule to  follow.

Hosting this  carnival  is an ingenious way to have people come! If you never  participated before, please  visit Exquisite Corpse on Before I am Famous.

For the submission period ending October 10, 2008 and the poem will be published here on October 11, 2008
The theme is: AUTUMN
the line rule is: 2 LINES CONTAINING AT LEAST ONE COLOR AND 4 OTHER ADJECTIVES

For example: yellow sun sinking beneath starch clouds,
wanton dreaming of sanguine nights, waiting for unknown caresses

Ready to join in the fun? Send your lines to me here

Blog Carnivals are a Great Way for People to Come

Published by J Scott under building links, other

Hello all, when it comes to ecommerce gaining traffic to your site is key to gain customers. If you are a business and don’t have a blog, set one up! You can do this either by adding a subdomain to your domain or use a free blogging service such as Blogger and Wordpress.   Being involved in the blogging community taps into a whole new realm.  Ways to be involved are: read other blogs related to yours and make meaningful comments, using traffic services like Entrecard, and participating in blog carnivals.

What is a blog carnival? It is a collection of blog posts that related. Maybe there is a carnival for “stereo equipment” and the theme for an upcoming edition is “what kind of speakers are the best.” If you have a business that does this and have a post about speakers submit that post. Remember blog posts for a business are not to be overly sales driven, make it interesting and informative, add in hyperlinks to your website correlating to the product in the blog post. People interested enough will click and hopefully buy something.

I am lucky because my business is writing poetry. Every week, Plot Dog Press runs the WOOF contest. This week, I submitted the poems by dragon blogger. People came to this site to read his post, maybe they looked around. There is one thing true, when they think of personalized poetry, they remember seeing a blog somewhere and hopefully come back and have me create a poem. The best part is this is FREE! It just takes work on your part to write  ( or have some else write) a good post and find a good carnival. A good starting place is blogcarnival.com.

Congratulations Dragon Blogger for being selected in the Top 5 this week.

WOOF Contest – Top 5 Picks:

Non-Fiction
Matthew R. Usner – “Natural Selection By Beer GlassA rather horrifying anecdote from one of the first jobs I ever had.
Matt Gamble  -  “Cool WorldA review of the Ralph Bakshi film Cool World, a film that somehow manages to do everything wrong, yet still results in a truly terrible movie.

Poems by Dragon Blogger

Published by J Scott under love poems, other

Hello all, today I have something special for you to enjoy some poems from a fellow blogger. Check out his blog Dragon Blogger
****

Hello readers, I have been visiting Dragonfly Poems for several months now and always enjoyed reading poetry. I have written poetry for about twenty years now and always used it as a form of expression for my feelings. Here are some poem’s I have written over the years that were inspired by the feelings I have for my spouse. So enjoy these poems and leave a comment on Dragonfly Poems, or Dragon Blogger and let me know if you enjoy them.

Love of a lifetime
When feelings grow so far within,
And swell within your heart and mind,
To seek out your desire, your only love
When I found this love my heart sang
We cherish every moment together
Decades pass time stands still
Only good remains the mistakes fade away
In each other arms with but one last breath
If there is an afterlife, I will see you soon
For there is no time worth living if it is not spent with you.

In a Moment
In a moment I knew my life would forever be altered,
In a moment I knew no more pain or strife,
In a moment I knew I would no longer be alone,
In a moment I realized there would always be two,
This was the moment I met you.

Ancient Song

Ageless gold drips down scattered clouds,
How the legacy of the ancients sang.
In scattered moments serene and calm,
The song can be heard in the wind.
The passage of time endless and sure,
The song continues when no one pays heed.

Those who are true and one together,
Can hear the song in the back of their minds.
A distant drum quaking your reality,
The song sings for those to come.

The song is of love and true passion,
The song is of powerful tune.
The song sings to lovers at the peak of their time,
The song is what binds lovers true.

Only we can hear the song, it beats within us each very day.
Only we can hear the song, it is with us when we are away.
Only we can hear the song, it fills us with love and joy.

First Day

Published by J Scott under other

Standing at the brink of hallowed beginnings
Dreamy fears wash over, making the knees buckle and hearts tremor

launched from childhood to an endless hallway
suddenly alone yet surrounded by chaos

Freshman moving into downsized dorm rooms that echo with angst, testosterone and odors from last years’ tenants.
Freshman tries to break vibes with acronyms like LCD, DVD, CD, iPod, Wii, IPhone, Dell, and an old picture of Reese Witherspoon.

Youthful arrogance played across his face,
A freshman, lost and out of place.

How I Write a Personalized Poem

Published by J Scott under news and sales

When an order comes in the first thing I do is grab a notebook and write the name or names down the left margin. I write the info above in the top margin. I don’t write the poem yet, I let ideas  percolate with the information given to me by the person. Percolation takes the longest it can be as short as a couple of hours or as long as a couple of days but all my thoughts are focused on this poem. This is why I give myself 7 days to complete a poem. I write it  on paper first because I can take a notebook anywhere even the bathroom because I never know when the time to write will be.

The  hardest   for me is always the first line and once the first line or two written in my head.  I start writing. The actual writing takes anywhere several minutes up to a half hour. Once I chicken scratched the poem on paper. I close the book and don’t look it again for a little while. Before typing, I reread the rough version out loud for rhythm and style and make any corrections.  I move to typing, which is very challenging because I want to use neat fonts but make them big enough to read with out a magnifying glass. I can spend a good hour choosing fonts, point size to  make it fill the page.   Final steps are print and ship, the very easiest  of the whole creation process.

I found this proceess to work the best for  me, do you have any interesting ways on how you construct a poem? I would love to hear them. Feel free to leave a  comment.
